The Birthday Gift

My daughter’s best friend said that she’d like to call.
I agreed, thought she’d be by herself.
Then to my surprise she arrived with her dad,
A great guy they called a “friggin’ elf”.

The Elf came prepared with a tape in his hand,
He’d look, think a bit, and then measure.
‘Twas easy to see that he planned to build
A wonderful custom-made treasure.

He shortly returned with a loosely built tray
And then asked me to try it for size.
It held my keyboard in a comfortable place,
So he sealed up that wondrous surprise.

Now most day are bright, although some are not so,
And one’s spirits, at times, need a lift.
Thanks to Alice and Dave, each day will be cheered
By their kindness and most useful gift.
